I am in my second trimester and it is painful at my tailbone. Some time ago, I had a hairline fracture on my tailbone. Is it normal to experience pain during pregnancy and are there any actions I could take to alleviate the pain?

The tailbone, or coccyx, is a small triangular bone at the base of your spine. As pregnancy progresses, there is a tilt on your pelvis because of a change in posture. This is related to the increasing weight of your baby. This can pull on your coccyx, causing pain. If you have had a previous injury to your coccyx such as from a fall, or sports such as cycling, this can make the pain worse. There are special U shaped coccyx cushions that can help to relieve the pressure on the coccyx when you sit down. Adjusting your sitting and standing posture can help. Your doctor can advise you on measures you can take.
